What happens when a company places its people at the heart of its strategy? For Inteb, it means achieving the prestigious Investors in People (IIP) Gold standard and setting course for sustained growth.

The future’s looking good for Inteb and its workforce as the business continues to be recognised for its constant focus on its staff in a “working together” ethos that’s driving growth.

Development, training and a high investment in their wellbeing are at the heart of the company’s achievement as it once more gains the prestigious Investors in People (IIP) Gold standard.

And it’s this strong people-focused culture, with management and their teams continually working in unison, that will set the business on course for long-term sustainable and sustained growth over the coming years.

In his report after a rigorous inspection, IIP’s Liam Linacre described Inteb as “an example of a business which has over many years adopted good practice in the drive for success, even in the face of considerable challenges”.

From its Egerton House headquarters in Birkenhead, Inteb’s independent multi-disciplinary team of energy and carbon experts shape the way UK business works towards a more sustainable future.

Its energy managers, engineers, surveyors, utility and sustainability consultants, who serve a wide range of clients in both public and private sectors, aim to be the best they can by helping clients transition to net zero and mitigate risks associated with legislation, market price volatility and security of energy supplies.

Liam’s report said: “What is clear is the commitment to quality and innovation in how they approach the challenges of running the business and how they underpin their drive for the future with real flair and hunger.

“The leadership team has a strong belief in people and a commitment to high performance.”

Inteb was first accredited with Investors in People in 2017 followed three years later by achieving the Gold standard – at a time when the Covid pandemic was sweeping the country.

Amid the pandemic, Inteb proactively supported its staff and customers by implementing flexible home-based work arrangements and other measures beyond legislative requirements.

Strengthened by a business ethos of care, staff carried on working in a professional manner, recognising the support given to them by the management team and its commitment to their health and wellbeing.

However, the IIP report acknowledged it had been Inteb’s embrace of high performance working principles across key themes and strategies over the past six years that had contributed to its continued growth and expansion.

And what was really positive was the commitment of the leadership team to support staff to deliver exceptional results and have in place working practices that resulted in improved business performance, increased sales, growing impact and increased staff numbers.

The report findings also revealed that staff thought Inteb was “a great place to work” and that there were the makings of an amazing, loyal workforce who take pride in their work, feel trusted, empowered and involved in delivering success.

The care and support given “from the top” made them feel part of a family, inspiring how they work and providing satisfaction and motivation.

There was praise too for forward-thinking initiatives set in place to reward and recognise employee achievement which included financial bonuses, social activities, personal development and support along with celebrations important to them.

The business also demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by supporting a wide range of charitable events and local community initiatives.

Inteb’s chief operating officer Tom Kelly said: “We are delighted to once again have achieved the IIP Gold standard which proves that for a business to be successful, it has to have an attitude of ‘working together’ and put the interests of its people at its heart.

“Our ethos is all about encouraging staff to develop their careers, to train and develop them – while maintaining a vital work-life balance – so they can make the most of their talents. This way, we can retain and attract the best people and ensure excellent standards are always delivered to our clients.

“On our path of promoting the benefits of reducing environmental impacts and continuous improvement, our sights are now set on further growth while, at the same time, maintaining the best conditions for those who work for us – simply putting our people first.”
