Energy costs are under pressure due to the energy crisis, which has led to the government announcing new incentives to help companies reduce them. This help, however, will not be immediate or for every business, with the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, stating:
“Support will target those that are most affected. This new approach will better incentivise energy efficiency.”
And we’ll only know what this help will look like and who is entitled to it following a treasury-led review later this year. With this in mind, there’s never been a better time to implement an ESOS audit.
Why?
Because it could save your business hundreds or thousands of pounds over the next 24 months (we’ll update you on this in an article when we have the full breakdown of the new fiscal budget).
ESOS is a government scheme created to reduce carbon emissions and advise companies on how best to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
And depending on where you’re based, the UK and offshore regulators are:
It should also be noted that ESOS-qualifying businesses must carry out ESOS assessments every four years.
As part of an ESOS audit, your building’s energy use is evaluated according to its design and type. You’ll also find out how much energy you use, how it’s used, and where you can reduce or eliminate waste.
So, if your organisation has more than 250 members of staff or has an annual turnover exceeding £50 million and £43 million, respectively, you must comply with ESOS. Failure to do so could result in a fine of £50,000.
To make sure this doesn’t happen, you need to submit an ESOS audit with your:
Conducting an ESOS audit is the first step in understanding your current energy consumption. This will help you find opportunities for improvement, benchmark against industry averages, and create a plan of action for saving money.
